How often should a deck be re-stained?
Semi-transparent every 2 to 3 years, solid stain every 3 to 5. Sun exposure drives the interval more than anything else.
Can a new deck be stained right away?
Pressure-treated lumber usually needs a few weeks to months to dry out enough. We test moisture rather than going by a calendar.
Stain or paint?
Stain on decking, always. Paint on a walking surface peels because it sits on top of the wood instead of soaking in.
